So Many Holiday Movies, So Little Time

Cheesy Christmas Movies 2020

By Tiffany Oldham

Hi. My name is Tiffany, and I am a Christmas movie addict.

I don鈥檛 know what it is about those cheesy Christmas movies but they get me every time. I just can鈥檛 wait to see the new list of Christmas movies coming to Netflix every year.

With all the social distancing, stress, and anxiety 2020 delivered, I feel like we need them this year.

From ghosts falling in love with humans and becoming real people to princes/princesses disguising themselves and falling for the most unexpected people, the glorious absurdity that ensues is like drinking some hot chocolate after playing in the snow.

Grab some cookies and milk and let鈥檚 dive in: Here are some of my favorite Christmas movies on Netflix.

A Christmas Prince (1, 2, & 3)

What can I say about these movies except they are the cheesiest of cheese but in the most 鈥渇avorite blanket鈥 kind of way.

It all starts with a gossip columnist flying to Moldovia to cover a prince who may or may not take the role of king this Christmas. Of course the reporter ends up posing as his little sister鈥檚 tutor and the prince falls in love with her, although not before their fair share of drama鈥ut you know they will live happily ever after...or will they?

Christmas Prince 2? It's time for these two to get married! Of course the girl is learning the way of the royals and just isn鈥檛 quite fitting in as a typical princess 鈥 how dare she have a blog? But will her new restricted royal life cause her to back away? You鈥檒l have to watch and see.

But wait, there鈥檚 more! Christmas Prince 3 brings鈥ou guessed it, their new baby! Everything is going great and Amber is now pregnant with the royal baby. This time the story is centered around the treaty that was signed 100 years ago with another county. The rival country is coming to re-sign the treaty when of course it goes missing. And of course, if the treaty isn鈥檛 signed by Christmas Eve there will be a curse on Amber鈥檚 first born. Being the reporter that she once was, she dives into the mystery. Will she move fast enough to guarantee a happily ever? See for yourself.

Christmas Inheritance

In case you鈥檙e starting to wonder about me, I DO know none of these movies are even remotely plausible, but they are so fun to watch. This one starts out with a 鈥減arty heiress鈥 who continually disappoints her dad, the owner of a Hallmark-esque company. To make her prove herself, he sends her to the quaint small town (of course), Snow Falls, with the yearly Christmas letter to give to his business partner.

But there are stipulations - how else would this movie be good? She can鈥檛 tell anyone who she is and has $100 total. This provides all the fun of the movie. She rolls into town on a bus and immediately has her meet cute with a local innkeeper. They of course hate each other at first but after she runs out of money on the second day of her trip, he employs her at the inn. After stumbling with cleaning rooms and baking cookies they eventually fall in love but not before he finds out who she is and sends her off. Will they reconnect on Christmas? Watch and find out!

Holidate

This one is new this year and a little unconventional for a Christmas movie. It starts with a girl who is single and slightly bitter from her last relationship (we鈥檝e all been there, am I right ladies?). It鈥檚 a little clich茅, using the old plot point of her family hounding her to be with someone.

Enter her fun aunt (Kristin Chenoweth), who tells her to get a 鈥渉olidate鈥, like the mall Santa good ol鈥 auntie brought home for Christmas. Conveniently enough, while trying to return some pajamas, our heroine meets her perfect holidate. They spend the next few holidays together.

Eventually they fall in love but not before plenty of hi-jinks complicate things along the way. We all know how these end, but it鈥檚 always fun to see how they get there.

So get in your favorite PJs, get a bottle of wine and some popcorn, and start bingeing. Let鈥檚 hope the new year is just like the ending of all these movies and we live happily ever after.

Of course, I enjoy the classics as well. These are my favorite go-to Christmas classic movies.
