For college graduates, career readiness is fundamental in securing entrance into the workforce. NACE鈥檚 career readiness competencies serve as a guidebook for college graduates and professionals who are navigating their careers and the workforce.
Each competency represents an attribute that college graduates should strive to embody. NACE lists eight career readiness competencies that employers view as key features of potential employees including Career and Self Development, Communication, Critical Thinking, Equity and Inclusion, Leadership, Professionalism, Teamwork, and Technology. Each of these eight competencies contribute to an individual鈥檚 career readiness, and all of them can be developed through undergraduate student research. Research experience is highly valued, but it can be challenging to explain your research experience on paper or in interviews. Whether you鈥檙e applying to graduate school or applying for jobs, being able to efficiently showcase your research experience is crucial. The Council on Undergraduate Research provides resources and tips for translating your research experience into the job market or when applying for graduate school.
Student Research Opportunities
Research opportunities are available to all students. The Office of Student Research is dedicated to finding opportunities for any student interested in research. Every student, regardless of major or academic year, is encouraged to get involved in research. Students are not limited by location, and research opportunities exist for students from all 麻豆视频最新最全 University campuses.
Student Research Experience
The Student Research Experience (SRE) provides an opportunity for students to collaborate with a faculty mentor and engage in research at any point in their educational journey. Students work a maximum of 15 hours per week during the semester. SRE provides students with a paid research experience that is flexible and incredibly beneficial to their academic and professional careers. SRE participants must be eligible for the Federal Work Study program. The Office of Student Research can help students check eligibility.
SURE
The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program is an eight-week summer program that allows undergraduate students to engage in research with guidance from a faculty mentor. SURE participants are given a stipend and may have options for on-campus housing. The SURE program is a great opportunity for undergraduate students to work directly with a faculty mentor while enhancing their research skills and gaining experience to clarify career and educational goals.
