  Most of Â鶹ÊÓƵ×îÐÂ×îÈ«'s student population are first-time voters in this election, with others being first-time voters in a presidential election.   Â鶹ÊÓƵ×îÐÂ×îÈ« Today visited the polls and saw a steady stream of students coming in to cast their votes at three polling locations near campus. We spoke with two first-time voters and one upperclass student who was casting their first vote for a presidential candidate. The past year was quite meaningful for Antoinette Fitzgerald.First, she graduated in May 2023 with her associate degree in nursing from Â鶹ÊÓƵ×îÐÂ×îÈ« East Liverpool. Then, she was hired by Akron Children’s Hospital as a float nurse for the Boardman location, making history as the first ADN student to complete the hospital’s Career Launch program.And, just recently, she completed her first year as a registered nurse in the special care nursery at Akron Children’s Boardman location and graduated from its Nurse Residency program.Fitzgerald explained that the Akron Children’s Career Launch progr...

Lucille Schneider, the Flash Activities Board (FAB) president for the 2024–25 academic year, is grateful for the opportunities she received at Â鶹ÊÓƵ×îÐÂ×îÈ« University.Schneider is a Â鶹ÊÓƵ×îÐÂ×îÈ« senior pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in visual communication design (VCD) and a minor in user experience design. In addition to her work at FAB, she is a graphic designer for Signum Multimedia in the Division of Student Life. She is from Middle Bass Island, Ohio, and her interest in graphic design began as a junior in high school. When Â鶹ÊÓƵ×îÐÂ×îÈ« University alumnus Justin Horoiwa attended the university from 2005 to 2009, he left here empty-handed without earning his bachelor’s degree. But thanks to Â鶹ÊÓƵ×îÐÂ×îȫ’s Degree Completion Program, Horoiwa returned to Â鶹ÊÓƵ×îÐÂ×îÈ« and completed his degree in 2016.Since then, he has spent time serving in the Peace Corps in Africa, earned a graduate degree and in recent years has contracted as an information officer with an international relief agency.All of this would not have been possible if Horoiwa had not enrolled in Â鶹ÊÓƵ×îÐÂ×îȫ’s Degree Completion Program, giving him t...
